Taiwan Retail Sales – December-25-2023
In November 2023, Taiwan’s retail sales saw a significant boost, growing by 7.3% compared to the same period last year. This was a step up from the 5.1% increase seen in the previous month. This marked the highest growth in retail activity since June. The surge was mainly due to a rise in sales in several sectors including textiles & clothing (13.2%), electronic shopping & mail-order houses (5.2%), and motor vehicles, motorcycles & related parts & accessories (17.5%).
Additionally, there was a slight increase in the sales of cultural & recreation goods in specialized stores (0.9%). However, not all sectors saw growth. Sales of household appliances & goods, fuel & related products, and pharmaceutical & medical goods & cosmetics saw a slight decrease. Moreover, sales of food, beverages & tobacco saw a decline of -1.7%. Despite these decreases, overall retail activity in November still saw a 3% increase compared to the previous month.
